This revised edition of Farewell to Freedom was completed in March 2017. The story remains the same but changes make for easier and more comprehensive reading. Enjoy!
Cheyenne Stevens is a woman in her forties who runs away from the heartbreak of a failing marriage into the arms of a ruthless cowboy, Rowdy Harrison. They meet in Las Vegas during the National Finals Rodeo. The cowboy invites the socialite to visit him in Freedom. Leaving her friends and family behind, Cheyenne moves to Freedom a small cow town in Northwestern Oklahoma. Not satisfied with the living conditions in the rundown bunkhouse on Rowdy's father's ranch, she builds a million dollar lodge and restaurant and entertains visitors from around the world. Although her surroundings have improved, her love for the cowboy wanes. She becomes involved in his bucking bull business and when Rowdy pressures her to spend her money improving his fledgling bull business, she does. In the beginning it is a love story; but as the years roll by things change between them. Rowdy becomes a womanizing drunk. He spends her money like it's water and takes advantage of her good nature. She helps care for his aging parents and his teenage children. His stepson follows in his footsteps and begins to take advantage. Life in Freedom becomes a roller coaster ride. The beautiful surroundings she has created become a playground for Rowdy and his free loading friends. Cheyenne seeks to find a way out of the hell she has created. She's faced with elements and individuals who seek to take advantage and life there takes a serioius toll on her. However she is a tenacious, hardworking woman who bounces back time after time. When one door closes another opens. She takes risks that most women would never dream of. Although she sometimes enjoys the life in the country, she learns the risks are not worth the effort. When she has an opportunity to leave, she does. Saying Farewell to Freedom becomes a matter of survival.
